An open and transparent government is essential to the democratic process. In accordance with this principle, Kansas law ensures that citizens have the right to access public records and observe the meetings of public bodies where decisions that affect our state are made. The primary laws protecting this principle are the Kansas Open Records Act (KORA) and the Kansas Open Meetings Act (KOMA). As the County Attorney for Bourbon County, Tiana McElroy is committed to providing education on the requirements of open government to citizens as well as members of local government, but she is also dedicated to taking enforcement action when violations do occur.
